What is 1 Book 1 School?
1 Book 1 School is a program that places a book in the hands of every student at Hogg MS. The students read the book, which is woven into a curriculum provided by our award-winning librarian Mary Chance, and ends with an amazing opportunity to meet the author of the book (and have the book autographed) on February 21, 2020. Our book for this upcoming school year is Refugee by Alan Gratz. It is a powerful story about three children fleeing their homelands. Our theme will be the concept of 'Home'. Refugee is a poignant novel about the plight of three refugees, and was on the New York Times Bestselling List for over a year. Page-turning, heartrending, and a perfect fit for our IB school. Hogg can't wait to share this timely topic and story with its students. Students will participate in engaging activities throughout the school year, leading up to the author event and Literacy Night. Reading a single book as a school builds community and gives Hogg parents, teachers, students a shared experience that celebrates literacy. What are the costs?
Through generous discounts offered by Blue Willow Bookshop, Hogg PTA is able to purchase the book for all students at a cost of approximately $4,000 for each grade level ($12,000 for the entire school). We hope to raise enough funds so that everyone can have a book in the Fall before our author visit in February.
1 Book 1 School Sponsorship Opportunities
